10 YEARS AGOMAY 4, 2016It took two attempts, but the Rison City Council voted 4-2 Tuesday night to allow Mayor Vernon Dollar to move forward with securing a loan of up to $350,000 to install new digital water meters to every customer on the city's water system. During the meeting, it was suggested that the city take a much more aggressive approach to repairing water leaks around town, and it was stated that complaints voiced by residents was that the city is not doing enough to fix the leaking water lines. Dollar said there will not have to be a rate increase to pay for the meters.Kingsland Recorder/Treasurer Leann Huntley took responsibility for discrepancies found in a Legislative Audit of the city's financial records during the Kingsland City Council meeting last Thursday. In light of the findings, the council approved hiring an accountant to conduct an in-house audit of the city's finances as well.The person responsible for Get Rid of It's operations in Arkansas addressed the Cleveland County Quorum Court about the numerous service complaints the county has received after the company switched to a new type garbage truck about two months ago. Complaints range from the truck failing to pick up trash cans and leaving trash on the roads, to poor customer service at the corporate office and garbage trucks making runs as early as 2 a.m.Sheriff Jack Rodgers advised Kingsland residents complaining about loose dogs and loud motorcycles to file a formal affidavit with the circuit court's office to have formal charges filed against those violating city ordinances.The Rison Lady Wildcats, with 20 wins, captured the school's first-ever District Tournament softball championship last week, knocking off Woodlawn and Parkers Chapel. Also, it marked the first time for Rison to win three district titles in girls athletics during a single school year: basketball, track and softball....
