10 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 2, 2013 Cleveland County Sheriff Jack Rodgers reported that two arrests were made last Wednesday on drug charges after an investigation that was conducted by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department and 13th Judicial Drug Task Force. Sheriff's department investigators received information about possible drug activity at a residence on Joe Huntley Road near Kingsland, where methamphetamine was allegedly being sold. Rodgers said a search warrant was obtained for the residence and arrest warrants were issued for Charles Wayne Evans, 26, and Matthew Spencer, 32, both of whom lived at the residence. Beginning next Monday, the Cleveland County Health Unit, in conjunction with the Cleveland County and Woodlawn school districts, will be providing seasonal flu shots to school children and staff. Cleveland County Sheriff Jack Rodgers and County Treasurer Jack Hopson both addressed what is happening in their respective offices this past Saturday morning at the Conservative Breakfast Meeting held at the Broken Spoke in Rye. Both speakers are serving in their first terms in their respective offices. The locally-organized meetings are held each quarter to allow local elected officials to give their insights on various issues in their respective offices. Rodgers reported how many cases the department has addressed or investigated so far this year, while Hopson told the audience that the county's finances are much better at this time. The board of the Cleveland County School District approved a 2013-14 budget last Thursday that will leave the district with a slightly higher finishing balance than it started the year with - a goal that every school district in the state seeks to achieve. After finishing the year with a lower ending balance about two years ago, Supt.
