Rison Cheerleaders Soar at National Skills Camp

The Rison Wildcat Cheerleaders hosted a National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Skills Camp from May 29–31.Throughout the camp, both the high school and junior high squads received professional instruction in stunting, tumbling, and game-day preparation, setting the stage for a successful cheer season ahead.During the camp, both teams were evaluated on their skills and performance:Rison Junior High received a Spirit Stick, the Stunt Safe Award, the Technical Excellence Award for Attitude, and earned a Superior Rating on their final jam evaluation.Rison High School earned a Spirit Stick, the Technical Excellence Award for Jumps, the prestigious Herkie Award, and also received a Superior Rating on their final jam evaluation.In addition, several cheerleaders were recognized for their leadership and positive influence. The “Pin It Forward”award, given to squad members who exemplify kindness, team spirit, and a positive attitude, was awarded to Jimena Castillo and Ana Taylor (RJHS),  Shelby Derrick (RHS), and Elissa Summar (RHS).RHS Cheerleader Claire Socia was named the Jump-Off Champion, while finalists included Josie Farrer and E’Ryja Marks (RHS), and Khloe Ento (RJHS).Camp concluded with tryouts for the NCA All-American Team, an honor given to standout performers in stunting, tumbling, jumps, cheer, leadership, and dance. The following cheerleaders were selected:RJHS All-Americans: Jimena Castillo, Ryley Hipp, and Ana TaylorRHS All-Americans: Claire Socia, Josie Farrer, Mallory Stuckey, Marcela Castillo, Shyanne Swaim, and E’Ryja MarksThe Rison Wildcat Cheerleaders would like to extend their gratitude to the Cleveland County School Board, school administration, and all community members who have supported their fundraising efforts.
