The Rison City Council unanimously approved providing up to $80,000 to buy a second pumper truck for the Rison Fire Department during a special-called meeting Thursday night, April 9. Fire Chief Alan Parnell told the city council during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday that the secondary fire truck used to back-up fire calls within the city limits was close to being inoperable. Parnell said it takes about 10 minutes for the pressure to build up enough to release the brakes to allow it respond to a call. Without the truck, he said the department will be left with just one truck. Parnell and Keden Shrum are using a national website that sells used fire trucks from bigger cities to find a truck. The city’s effort to find grant money to buy a new one, which can cost $400,000 to $450,000, has proved fruitless so far. Parnell said he hopes to find a second truck as soon as possible....
