WOODLAWN - Woodlawn Coach Zach Meyer said he could have as few as 10 players available this Friday night when his Bears host the Guy-Perkins Thunderbirds at the Carl Jones Sports Complex. The junior high teams are scheduled to play at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity teams at 7 p.m.Guy-Perkins is in its first year of football, and the Thunderbirds are off to a 0-2 start, falling 82-0 to Class 3A Marshall in its first season opener and then 62-6 last week at Dermott.Meyer said the T-Birds are still learning to play football, and the Bears can use the game to help develop some much-needed depth, especially after the injuries they sustained last week at Midland.Woodlawn could have up to five players out Friday night, including running back/defensive back Ethan Adair, who is in concussion protocol; lineman Cameron Manes, who has a knee injury; lineman Michael Wright, who has a broken foot; and lineman Ethan White, who suffered a hip injury and is expected to be out about six weeks.In addition, Meyer said senior quarterback Aden Moore is questionable after suffering a high ankle sprain.With just 15 players on the roster, Meyer said he knew depth would be an issue this season, so the coaching staff spent much of the off season cross training players. "We worked all summer on it but I didn't think we would lose five in one game," he said.Moore is in his second season as the starting quarterback. He went down with an ankle injury after a big run in the second quarter last week at Midland. While he tried to return early in the third quarter, he ended up sitting out most of the second half.Meyer said he was pleased with the performance he got from sophomore quarterback Parker Arnold who had to step ikn for Moore.
