Bears Blast Trojans, 11-3

PARKERS CHAPEL - An eight-run third inning that featured six walks and five hits powered the Woodlawn Bears to an easy 12-3 over the Parkers Chapel Trojans in an early season showdown of 8-2A title contenders. After two scoreless innings, Woodlawn loaded the bases off two walks and a single by Garrett Weatherford. Three more walks pushed three runs home before a couple of passed b alls scored two more and Austin Howard doubled to drive in one more. A triple by Jayden Wilmoth brought another run home before back-to-back singles by Dylan Butler and Tate Hall followed by another walk made it 8-0 before the Trojans finally ended the frame with three straight strikeouts. Woodlawn added two more runs in the fourth to go up 10-0 but Parkers Chapel avoided the run rule by scoring all three of its runs in the bottom of the fifth. Howard was stellar on the mound for the Bears, giving up just two hits and one walk over four innings while striking out 10 to pick up the win. Jase Bishop finished out the game allowing two hits, walking four and striking out six. Howard, Wilmoth and Butler all finished with two hits apiece. Owen Stover had a double with three RBIs. Woodlawn 9, Hamburg 1 HAMBURG - Two-run doubles by Jayden Wilmoth and Garrett Weatherford in the top of the seventh blew open the game for the Woodlawn Bears last Friday as they coasted to a 9-1 road victory over the Class 4A Hamburg Lions. Woodlawn pitchers Austin Howard, Owen Stover and Jase Bishop combined to throw a three-hitter at the Lions while registering a combined 10 strikeouts. A solo homerun by Brayden Jones in the first inning and a RBI single by Aidan Johnson in the second gave the Bears an early 2-0. Woodlawn added two more in the sixth off a single by Garrett Weatherford and a sacrifice fly by Johnson to make it 4-0.
