Bears Run Win Streak to 8 With Spring Hill Victory

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Bears used five doubles, a homerun and a six-run sixth inning to put away the Spring Hill Bears, 10-5, in a non-conference game at Woodlawn Field Tuesday afternoon. After Woodlawn had taken a 2-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly by Jaxson Raney and an error, Spring Hill came back with a three runs in the top of the third off three singles and a walk. Woodlawn regained the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the third when Dylan Butler singled in a run and Jase Bishop followed with a double to score Butler. Spring Hill tied the game, 4-4, when a hit to lead off the top of the sixth resulted in a run off a sacrifice bunt. Woodlawn, however, exploded for six runs in the bottom of the frame. Three consecutive doubles by Raney, Aidan Johnson and Brayden Jones, combined with an error, put the Bears up 7-4. Garrett Weatherford then scored on an error and Jayden Wilmoth followed with a solo homerun to make it 10-4. Spring Hill added a run in the top of the seventh for the final margin. Bishop, Butler, Johnson, Jones and Raney all had doubles in the game as Woodlawn finished with 11 hits. Butler and Bishop had two hits apiece. Owen Stover was the starting pitcher for Woodlawn and went four innings before being relieved by Jones, who threw the final three frames. Jones was awarded the win. Stover gave up five hits and four walks while striking out five. Jones allowed two hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The Bears improved to 18-3 overall with the victory. They are 8-0 in conference play with a three-game lead over Fordyce, Parkers Chapel and Ouachita.
