‘Cats Blank Fordyce; Rally Falls Short Against Ouachita

RISON - Brock Southerland pitched a complete game shutout as the Rison Wildcats blanked the Fordyce Redbugs, 8-0, Friday in 8-2A conference action at Wildcat Field.Southerland scattered five hits with four walks while striking out six to give the ‘Cats a split with the ‘Bugs in league play. Fordyce won the first game, 121.A bases-loaded walk to Ethan Saeler in the second inning had Rison clinging to a 1-0 lead entering the fourth when the Wildcats came up with three runs to give themselves some breathing room.Three walks had loaded the bases for Rison with one out when Andrew Couture scored on a passed ball. Matthew Howard then singled to drive in two runs to make it 4-0.The ‘Cats extended their lead to 6-0 in the fifth when James Jacobs had a RBI single and Couture scored on another passed ball.Rison’s final two run came with two out in the sixth when Canon Cope doubled, Owen Morrison walked and Ayden Laws hit another double to score both runners.The Redbugs’ most serious scoring threat came in the fourth when they had a the bases loaded with one out. However, Southerland got a fly out and a ground out to escape unharmed.Cope led the Wildcats with three hits and one RBI. Howard, Morrison, Laws, Couture and Jacobs also had hits.It was Rison’s fourth win in its last six games as the ‘Cats improved to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play.Ouachita 11, Rison 10 RISON - Rison once again put together a late rally against one of the top teams in the 8-2A, but the Wildcats fell short, 11-10, in a back-and-forth conference battle with the Ouachita Warriors last Thursday at Wildcat Field.After Ouachita capitalized on a couple more Rison errors in the top of the seventh to go up 11-7, the ‘Cats responded in the bottom of the frame with Brock Southerland and Canon Cope hitting back-to-back singles to start it off.The Warriors then had an error on Owen M...
