Jr. Bears Fall at Brinkley

BRINKLEY - Brinkley had couple of big plays that led to touchdowns as the Junior Tigers knocked off the Woodlawn Junior Bears, 24-14, in the season finale Friday afternoon at Tiger Stadium in Brinkley.After Woodlawn fumbled away the opening kickoff, the Junior Tigers were facing fourth-and-1 at the Junior Bear 36 when they broke through the line of scrimmage for a 36-yard touchdown run. Brinkley was successful on the two-point conversion to go up 8-0.On the ensuing kickoff, Griffin Manes returned it 58 yards to the Junior Tiger 20, and on the next snap had a 16-yard gain down to the Brinkley 4. Two plays later, quarterback Tate Jacks ran it in from five yards out for the score. Manes added the two-point conversion to tie the game, 8-8 with 3:53 left in the first quarter.Woodlawn drove to the Brinkley 17 late in the second quarter but an interception turned back the threat.The Junior Tigers went 56 yards in five plays to start the third quarter, and took a 16-8 lead with 5:28 left after running in the two-point conversion.The Junior Bears had a nice drive going on their next series, but a fumble on fourth-and-1 at the Brinkley 40 led to a turnover on downs. On the next play, the Junior Tigers ripped off a 58-yard touchdown run to make it a two-score game, 24-8, with 54 seconds left in the third.Woodlawn responded with its best drive of the game, using 14 plays to drive 80 yards. Jacks capped the long march with a four-yard pass to Duke Scott with 56 seconds left in the game. The Junior Bears were flagged five yards for illegal motion on the conversion attempt, and the two-pointer was no good leaving it a 24-14 game.Brinkley then recovered the onside kick to end the game.Manes had 87 yards rushing on 13 attempts.
