Jr. Bears Survive Jr. Trojans After Leading Big at Break

PARKERS CHAPEL - What looked like a blowout at halftime turned into a nail-biter over the final two quarters as the Woodlawn Junior Bears held on for a 44-36 win over the Parkers Chapel Junior Trojans last Friday in an 8-2A conference matchup at Parkers Chapel. Woodlawn seemed to have the game well in hand by halftime, leading 19-2 by the end of the first quarter and 29-9 at the break. But with the Junior Bears’ leading scoring, Jude Roberts, picking up his third foul in the second quarter and then quickly picking up his fourth early in the third, the Junior Trojans manged to cut that 20-point halftime cushion to nine, 33-24, by the start of the fourth quarter. Woodlawn, however, regained its footing and played nearly even over final period to preserve the win. Junior Bears Coach Logan Adair said Roberts, who had a game-high 20 points, was forced to the bench for about 3 minutes of the second quarter due to foul trouble and then sat out most of the third after picking up his fourth foul within about a minute and a half into the second half. Jake Allred picked up the scoring slack by finishing with 15 points. Woodlawn improved to 2-1 in conference play and 9-5 overall with the win.
