Jr. Hermits Too Big, Too Fast For Jr. Bears

HERMITAGE - For the second consecutive week, the Woodlawn Junior Bears went up against an undefeated team that was larger and faster than they were as the Hermitage Junior Hermits rolled to a 44-6 victory in a South Conference game Friday afternoon at Hermitage. Woodlawn fell to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play with the loss. In a matchup that was similar to their conference opener the week before at Strong, the Junior Hermits held a physical advantage over the Junior Bears in both size and speed. Woodlawn's roster includes just five 9th graders, 10 8th graders and 15 7th graders. Still, Woodlawn did find some success at times. On the second play of the game, Junior Bears quarterback Parker Arnold took a bootleg 26 yards and then picked up another 13 on the next play to give Woodlawn a first down at the Hermitage 24. Ethan White then bulled his way to the 20 on the next snap before a tackle for a loss and a high snap stalled the drive. The Junior Hermits took their first play of the game 71 yards for a touchdown to go up 8-0 with 3:38 left in the first quarter. Hermitage then used a 67-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0 with 3:31 left in the second quarter. Woodlawn answered when Arnold scored on a 43-yard keeper to make it 14-6 with 1:41 left in first half. Hermitage, how-ever, came back with a 52-yard touchdown pass on its next play, giving the Junior Hermits a 22-6 cushion at the half. Hermitage scored on its first three possessions of the second half, using a three-yard pass and runs of 45 and 51 yards to make it a 44-6 final. The Junior Bears will host the Dermott Junior Rams at 5 p.m. Friday in another South Conference game. ...
