Junior Bears Shutout Midland

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn quarterback Greyson Jones threw a couple of touchdown passes while 7th graders Carson Young and D.C. Heflin had a couple of long scoring runs as the Junior Bears shutout the Midland Junior Mustangs, 34-0, last Friday afternoon at the Carl Jones Sports complex.Jones had the game's first score when he blocked a Junior Mustang punt and returned in 20 yards for a touchdown with 6:39 left in the first quarter. Young added the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.Woodlawn opened the second quarter with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Miles West, and Jones then found Duke Scott in the end zone for a 14-yard scoring strike. Both conversion attempts were no good, leaving the Junior Bears up 20-0 at the half.Young started the third quarter with a 51-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second half. Bentley Parker ran in the twopointer to make it 28-0. The two teams played with a running clock after that.Heflin capped Woodlawn's next drive with a 31-yard touchdown dash, making it 34-0 after the conversion run failed.Young was the game's leading rusher with 83 yards on eight carries with one touchdown. Heflin followed with 47 yards on three rushes with one touchdown.Jones completed three of six pass attempts for 41 yards and two scores. He also had an interception.Woodlawn improved to 2-0 with the win. The Junior Bears continue non-conference play this Thursday against the South Side-Bee Branch Hornets.
