Lady Bears Beat Gurdon, Hermitage; Fall To SS-Bee Branch, Cutter-MS

GURDON - Woodlawn took control early as the Lady Bears opened 8-2A conference play with a 53-23 win over the Gurdon Lady Devils last Tuesday at Gurdon.Woodlawn jumped out to a 20-8 lead by the end of the first quarter before extending it to a 32-14 by halftime. The Lady Bears made it 50-21 by the start of the fourth.Kathryn Dixon had 18 points to lead all scorers followed by a double-double from Kelsi Mack with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Addison Holland had eight points.“Super proud of the team effort in the win,” said Lady Bears Coach Synthia English. “We did not shoot the ball, but to get a win like this on a poor shooting night is a great sign for future games.”The Lady Bears fell to the Southside-Bee Branch Lady Hornets, 53-45, in a non-conference game last Friday to fall to 5-3 overall on the season.Woodlawn 61, DeWitt 46DEWITT - Four Lady Bears scored in double figures as Woodlawn broke the game open in the third quarter for a 61-46 win over the DeWitt Lady Dragons in a non-conference game Dec. 2 at DeWitt.Woodlawn was up 29-24 at halftime when the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Dragons, 25-13, to take a 54-37 lead into the final period.“It was a great team win,” Woodlawn Coach Synthia English said. “As a team we had 42 rebounds and 12 assists.
