Lady Bears Beat Junction City; McWhorter No Hits Monticello

WOODLAWN - Half of Woodlawn’s 12 hits were doubles Friday as the Lady Bears blew past the Junction City Lady Dragons, 12-4, to open 8-2A conference play at Lady Bear Field.Lillie Faye McWhorter had a one-out double to score two runs in the bottom of the first before a follow-up single by Macy Harrison made it 3-0 Lady Bears.Junction City used three walks, a hit and an error to plate all four runs in the top of the third to take a momentary 4-3 lead before Woodlawn went back in front in the bottom the frame.Kendall Tooke led off the bottom of the third with a double, and McWhorter brought her home with a ground out to tie it up, 4-4. Payton Bradley later doubled to drive in two runs to put the Lady Bears in front for good at 6-4.Harrison had a two-out double in the fourth that scored two runs, Anniston Wright’s sacrifice bunt and Kathryn Dixon’s two-out double added two more in the fifth to extend it to 10-4.Maeley Simmons and Wright had RBI singles in the sixth to account for Woodlawn’s final two runs.McWhorter was the starting pitcher of the Lady Bears. She gave up one hit while walking five over three innings.
