Lady Bears Third at Atkins Tournament

ATKINS - After a delayed start to the season thanks to the Lady Bears basketball team making a run to the state tournament, the Woodlawn softball team got off to a good start going 5-2 to finish third in the Chelsea Riley Memorial Tournament held this past weekend at Atkins.Both losses came to the Class 3A Lincoln Lady Wolves, 1-0 and 7-4. The Lady Bears knocked off Class 3A Paris, 151; Class 4A Dardanelle, 9-1: Class 1A Wonderview, 17-0; Class 4A Clarksville, 11-7; and Class 3A Booneville, 5-2.Here is a recap of each game in the order they were played: Woodlawn 18, Paris 1Woodlawn open its season cranking out 12 hits over three innings as the Lady Bears blew out the Paris Lady Eagles, 18-1, Saturday at Atkins.Kathryn Dixon, Addison Holland, Karsyn Chastain and Lily White all had two hits apiece. Madi West, Lillie Faye McWhorter, Kendall Tooke and Macie May also had hits.Dixon finished with three RBIs while West, Holland, May and White each had two apiece.Chastain was the winning pitcher for Woodlawn, giving up two hits, no walks and striking out three over two innings before the game was called due to time before the bottom of the third.Lincoln 1, Woodlawn 0Woodlawn's Lillie Faye McWhorter pitched a no-hitter in her first start of the season, but the Lincoln Lady Wolves managed to steal a 1-0 victory over the Lady Bears when a run scored off a dropped third strike and a wild pitch in the bottom of the first.Lincoln's Lauren Remington reached on the dropped third strike to lead off the frame, moved to second on a ground out and then to third on passed ball. She scored on the wild pitch with two out.Woodlawn put its lead-off batter aboard in the first and fifth innings, but could not generate a run.
