Lady Billies Too Much For Lady 'Cats, 19-5

RISON - Monticello cranked out 20 hits over five innings as the Class 4A Lady Billies knocked off the Rison Lady Wildcats, 19-5, last Thursday at Lady Wildcat Field.It was Rison's second setback against Monticello this year after the Lady Billies tossed a nohitter in a season-opening 11-0 win on Feb. 26.The Lady 'Cats did manage to tag the Monticello pitching staff this time, including a solo homerun by Riley Hyatt in the second inning.Monticello had a seven-run lead by the time Hyatt had her shot in the bottom of the second inning, using a double, two singles and two errors to go up 3-0 in the first and two homeruns in the second to make it 70 The Lady Billies broke the game open in the top of the third as they used four singles, three doubles and another homerun to plate seven runs and make it 14-1.Monticello had stretched it to 17-1 when Rison answered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. A walk, an error and hit batter loaded the bases with no outs when a ground out by Victoria James drove in one run, a single by Layne Potter brought in another and a two-out hit by Carlesse Johnson scored two more to cut the Lady Billies' lead to 17-5.After Monticello added two more runs in the top of the fifth, the game was ended by the 10run rule after the Lady 'Cats batted in the bottom of the fifth.Hyatt, Potter and Johnson accounted for Rison's three hits in the game. Johnson finised with two RBIs.Johnson was the starting pitcher for Rison, going two innings before giving way to Josey Edwards for the final three frames. Combined, the gave allowed 19 hits and two walks.Rison dropped to 0-3 with the loss....
