PLEASANT PLAINS, Ark. - While there is no consensus as to why Friday the 13th is considered to be an unlucky day, it might be difficult to convince Woodlawn Coach Zach Meyer otherwise, especially after what happened to his Bears last Friday night against the Midland Mustangs.Woodlawn suffered several injuries at key positions, and Midland used a couple of big pass plays to build a two-score lead before adding a couple more late scores against a rag-tag defense to post a 26-0 non-conference victory at Pleasant Plains.By the time the game was winding down in the fourth quarter, Woodlawn had linemen lining up in the defensive backfield. Meyer said about half the team was playing out their regular positions during the second half. The injuries started in the first half when senior running back Ethan Adair, after going 38 yards on his first carry of the game, had to leave on the Bears' second offensive series due to concussion protocol. He had already racked up 65 yards on just six attempts when he was forced out.Aiden Moore, the senior quarterback, went down with an ankle injury after ripping off a 38yard gain on the first play of Woodlawn's third possession. He tried to return but was eventually regulated to the sideline.Meanwhile, promising sophomore lineman Ethan White had to be carted off the field after suffering a severe hip injury during an onside kick attempt to start the second half. He was transported by ambulance for medical attention. On top of that, junior tight end/ defensive end Michael Wright suffered a foot injury that had him on the sidelines for much of the game as well."If I lost one of my (running) backs, I would be hurtin'," Meyer said. "If I lost Moore, I would really be hurting because he is really mobile (at quarterback and has a full grasp of the offense)." Meyer and the coaching staff were forced to plug in players where the could as the injuries began to mount. Before the season, Meyer said if...
