No. 5 Dumas Pulls Away From Lady Wildcats

RISON - Fifth-ranked Dumas had a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter that pushed its lead into double digits as the Lady Bobcats pulled away down the stretch for a 54-41 win over the Rison Lady Wildcats in an 8-3A conference matchup inside the Rison Gym Tuesday night.After a back-and-forth first half, Dumas used a run late in the second quarter to go up 2519 at halftime.However, Rison’s Tee Martin, opened the third quarter with two quick layups off steals as the Lady Wildcats made it a twopoint game at 25-23. The Lady Bobcats answered with a 9-0 run off a couple of put-backs by Ziyaun McKinzie, a three-point play by Stephana Steen and a layup by Kendri Broughton.The Lady Wildcats battled back, and Layne Potter’s two free throws closed it to 40-34 by the end of the third.Dumas used a couple of inside baskets from Broughton as well as a score by Steen to go on a 6-0 run to start the fourth and extend the Lady Bobcats’ lead to 46-34.Rison was unable to get any closer than 10 points the rest of the way as Dumas led by as many as 14 before settling for the 13-point win.Lady Wildcat Coach Lisa Jester said they simply made too many mistakes and were struggling to get their shots to fall. Still, she was proud of the effort considering that Dumas, 17-1 overall after the win and 4-0 in league play, is currently ranked no. 5 in Sports Illustrated’s Arkansas High School Computer Rankings for Class 3A girls’ teams.Miller led the Lady Wildcats and all scorers with 18 points while Carlese Johnson had nine.Rison fell to 9-6 overall and 12 in conferenc with the loss.Rison 70, Lake Village 43 LAKE VILLAGE - Rison made 11 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter, as the Lady Wildcats used an explosive third quarter to race past the Lake Village Lady Beavers 70-43 last Tuesday for their first 8-3A conference win of the season.Rison found its range from outside early on...
