No-Hitter Against BIC Ends Two Game Skid for Bears

WOODLAWN - Austin Howard and Grant Cowart combined to throw a no-hitter Monday as the Woodlawn Bears ended a two-game skid with a convincing 11-0 shutout of the Buffalo Island Central Mustangs at Woodlawn. Owen Stover's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth invoke the 10-run rule for Woodlawn, which improved to 10-2 with the win. Howard got the start and went five innings, striking out nine while giving up just two walks. Cowart pitched the top of the sixth, giving up one walk. After a scoreless first inning, the Bears broke the game open with four runs in the second. With the bases loaded and two out, Dillon Lunsford was hit by a pitch to push one run across before Aidan Johnson scored on a passed ball. Brayden Jones then doubled to drive in two more runs to make it 4-0. Stover and Jaxson Raney both scored on passed balls in third to make it 6-0. Stover had a RBI single and Jayden Wilmoth had a RBI triple in the fourth to make it 8-0. Lunsford singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth before Jones walked to put two aboard. Garrett Weatherford then drove in a run off a single before Stover delivered his two-run double to end the game. Woodlawn had nine hits over the six innings. Stover, Weatherford and Wilmoth all finished with two hits apiece with Stover collecting three RBIs and Weatherford and Wilmoth one apiece. Jones, Lunsford and Jase Bishop also had hits.
