Rauls Wins 148 Class; Bears Finish Fourth at AHSPA State Meet

MONTICELLO - Jude Rauls won his weight classification while three other Woodlawn lifters finished among the Top 3 in their respective classes as the Bears finished fourth overall at the Arkansas High School Powerlifting Association Championship meet held this past Saturday, March 18, at Monticello High School. Meanwhile, Woodlawn's Cain Wilkins was second in the 123 pound classification for the girls division. She lifted a total of 365 pounds. Powerlifting championships are scored on the total number of pounds lifted in the bench press, squat and deadlift. All schools, regardless of their athletic classification, competed against one another at the meet. Team points were awarded for how each team members places within their individual weight classifications. Monticello was the state champion with 49 points followd by Crossett with 43, Star City with 27 and Woodlawn with 24. Hamburg rounded out the Top 5 with 22 points. Woodlawn weightlighting coach Trent Young said the Bears had lifters in six of the 14 weight classifications. He said three lifters that attended the meet just missed meting their weight classifications so they could not compete. Rauls, a sophomore, was first in the 148-pound classification with a lift total of 940 lbs. He has been one of the top lifters in that weight class the entire year. Senior Manny Wagner was second in the 242-pound classification with a total lift of 1,055 lbs. while Jackson Fitzgibbon was fourth in that same class with a total lift of 880 lbs. Freshman Beau Watson was third in the 181-pound classificaiont with a total lift of 600 lbs. while Daxton White was third in the 220-pound classification with a total lift of 975 lbs. Kameron Manes finished fourth in the 275-pound classification while Aiden Powell was fourth in the 308-pound division. Both lifters are freshmen.
