Wildcats Edge Owls in Seventh; Blow Out Bobcats for Road Win

RISON - Pinch runner Griffin Weaver scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning and Noah Matheson tossed a one-hitter as the Rison Wildcats pulled off their second consecutive 8-3A victory with a thrilling 3-2 win over the McGehee Owls Tuesday at Wildcat Field.McGehee took advantage of two Wildcat errors in the first to take an early 1-0 lead.Rison tied it in the third when Tyler Barnes drew a walk to start the inning, and one out later, Trent Southerland singled. Barnes went to third on a wild pitch and Matheson then delivered a sacrifice fly that allowed Barnes to tag up to tie the game, 1-1.The ‘Cats took their first lead, 2-1, in the fifth when Kyson Walker walked with two out and then scored off an error on Southerland’s grounder.However, the Owls came back to tie it in the top of the seventh when a lead-off walk led to a run off a Wildcat error in the top of the seventh, making it 2-2.In the bottom of the seventh, Tyler Barnes drew a walk to start the frame and Walker then reached on an error to move Barnes’ pinch runner, Griffin Weaver, to third. Weaver then raced home on a wild pitch to win the game.Matheson had his best outing of the season as he rang up 17 strikeouts against the Owls. He gave up one hit and walked three in picking up the complete game victory.Rison had just one hit as well - a single by Southerland in the third.The Wildcats moved to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in conference with the win. DeWitt currently leads the conference at 4-0 with Rison, Drew Central and McGehee in a three-way battle for second with two league losses apiece.Rison will host Drew Central on Friday with a chance to move into second in the standings.
