Woodlawn Cruises By Gurdon; Allred’s Late Bucket Lifts Bears

WOODLAWN - A strong first half put Woodlawn up by 25 at halftime as the Bears cruised by the Gurdon Go Devils, 66-49, in 8-2A conference action last Friday night inside the Woodlawn Gym.The Bears got off to a great start, putting up 20 points in opening frame before adding 25 more in the second to lead 45-20 at the half. Woodlawn stretched its lead to 61-29 by the start of the fourth quarter, eventually invoking the running clock during the final period.Jude Roberts led the Bears with 18 points while Jake Allred and Garrett Weatherford finished with 12 points apiece.Woodlawn improved to 14-7 overall and 5-3 in league play with the win.Woodlawn 73, Hampton 71WOODLAWN - Jake Allred’s layup with 10 seconds left gave Woodlawn its first lead of the game as the Bears rallied for a 73-71 victory over the Hampton Bulldogs in an 8-2A conference clash last Tuesday night at Woodlawn.The Bears, after rallying from 13 down in the fourth quarter the night before to knock off Fordyce, struggled early on as the Bulldogs led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter before extending it to a 38-28 cushion at the break. Woodlawn was unable to make up any ground in the third as the ‘Dogs went into the final frame up 56-45. But that’s when the Bears’ two playmakers, Jude Roberts and Garrett Weatherford, began to heat as Roberts scored 13 of his 32 points in the fourth to help fuel the comeback. Even then, it wasn’t until Allred’s late basket that Woodlawn had its first and only lead of the game.In addition to Roberts’ 22 points, Weatherford had 22 and Allred had 13. ...
