Danny Jacks Statue Placed at Veterans Park

Body

RISON - Mike Murphree (left) and Jimmy Richards (right) of Camden Monument Company place a new bronze statue atop two slabs of granite Monday morning in a new display going up at Veterans Park in Rison.

The new statute, which features a Vietnam era rifle topped with a combat helmet on the top and combat boots at the bottom, is being placed there in memory of the late Danny Jacks of the Rowell community. Jacks was an Army Ranger who was highly decorated for his service during the Vietnam War. He was inducted into the Army Ranger Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Ga., as well as the Arkansas Military Hall of Fame inside the State Capitol at Little Rock.

The statue project is being funded by the Cleveland County Veterans Association, which is a grassroots group of people in the county who work together to recognize and pay tribute to veterans. John Blanchard with the group said a special ceremony dedicating the new statue is being planned for sometime in May.
