RISON - So far, four candidates have officially filed applications to become head foothball coach at Rison High School, Cleveland County School District Superintendent Craig Dupuy said Tuesday.
Dupuy said three of the candidates have head coaching experience while the other is serving as a defensive coordinator. Two of the candidates are from the Class 5A ranks while the other two are from Class 3A schools, Dupuy said.
Of the candidates who have been head coaches, he one has won a state championship and also finished as a state runner-up while another has won three conference championships.
Rison's long-time head football coach, Clay Totty, resigned from the position on Dec. 21 to accept the job at Class 5A Wynne High School. He had been at Rison for 25 years.
"We (himself and Rison High School Principal Davy King) were a little disappointed that there were not more applications," Dupuy said.
He said the district officially posted the job opening on the statewide school personnel website on Jan. 6. He said three of the four candidates applied during the first weekend that the job was posted.
Interviews with those four candidates will be taking place next week. Dupuy said there is no particular deadline as to when they want to have a new football coach hired. He said they will continue to consider candidates until the position is filled.
