Calaway House at Rison Nominated for State Register

Little Rock – The State Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will meet last Wednesday, April 5, to review properties being presented for consideration for the Arkansas Register of Historic Places. Among those being considered is the J.W. Calaway house located on Magnolia Street in Rison. The Calaway House is being considered for the Arkansas Register. Other properties being considered for the Arkansas Register include: •    Pleasant Grove Cemetery – Scotland, Van Buren County •    Cotton Boll Stadium – Monticello, Drew County •    Wilson House – Centerton, Benton County The board also reviewed the following properties for the National Register: •    University Park Historic District – Little Rock, Pulaski County •    Railroad Call Historic District Boundary Increase – Little Rock, Pulaski County •    William Laporte Building – Little Rock, Pulaski County •    Forrest Apartments – Hot Springs, Garland County •    Henderson State University Historic District – Arkadelphia, Clark County •    Dr. Paul H. Jeffery House – Bethesda, Independence Count •    Attwood House – Fordyce, Dallas County •    De Queen and Eastern Railroad Overpass – Lockesburg, Sevier County •    Van Buren Overpass – Van Buren, Crawford County •    Vinita Cemetery – Hackett, Sebastian County The State Review Board is an 11-member committee that works with the State Historic Preservation Program to approve nominations in the National Register of Historic Places. The members are appointed by the governor.
