RISON - The Cleveland County School Board is currently accepting petitions from qualified individuals residing within Zone 6 of the Cleveland County School District to fill a vacancy for the position.
The vacancy occurred following the resignation of Tony White, who cited health reasons for stepping down.
Individuals interested in being considered to fill the vacancy should submit an application/petition to the school district by Thursday, Oct. 24. A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, to consider applications.
Eligible applicants must must reside in Zone 6 and meet all qualifications required under Arkansas Law, Act 726 of 2025. Zone 6 encompasses an area northeast and east of Rison. The zone is bounded by the east side Hwy. 133 north of Rison to Rodgers Road.
Beyond Rodgers Road, it includes both sides of Hwy. 133 to the Jefferson County line. The southern boundary includes Pumpkin Hill Road and Hwy. 114 east of Rison. It is bordered by the Woodlawn School District to the east.
In addition, applications must include 20 signatures from registered voters from within Zone 6. Petition forms are available at the Cleveland County School District website or by contacting the District Administration Office.

Petitions can also be submitted in person at the Cleveland County School District Administration Office, 700 Main Street in Rison.
