RISON - One big change for students returning to school next week is that there will no longer be free lunches for everyone.
The 2022-23 school year be‐gins this Monday, Aug. 15, for students in the Cleveland County School while school does not begin until Wednesday, Aug. 17, for students in the Woodlawn School District.
For the past two years, the fed‐eral government provided money to schools to cover the cost of meals for all students, re‐gardless of their economic standing. However, that funding ended with the close of the 2021-22 school year.
Those families who qualify for free or reduced cost lunches will need to complete the forms this year to take part in the program. A chart found on page 3 of this issue of the Herald details the household earnings for those who are eligible for the pro‐gram.
Here is an overview of the up‐coming school year for each lo‐cal school district.
