Manes, Bears Destroy Dermott, 70-14

Body

Woodlawn junior running back Griffin Manes rushed for 217 yards as the Bears turned in a dominating 70-14 win over the Dermott Rams Friday night at Sportsman’s Park. Manes started the game with a 44-yard touchdown run and ended it with a 60-yard TD burst. Woodlawn jumped out to a 16-0 lead before the Rams broke off a 71-yard touchdown run on what was essentially a fake punt to make it 16-8. That was a close as it would get, however, as the Bears scored on on their next possession and then recovered three consecutive onside kicks, turning each one into a touchdown. They led 54-8 at the half. Ethan Saeler rushed for 87 yards on on five carries and scored three touchdowns while Parker Arnold had 86 yards on four carries with one TD.  Woodlawn improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in South Conference play with the win. They will take on the Strong Bulldogs in what will be a key South Conference battled to determine the conference championship.
