White Resigns Zone 6 Position on CCSB

The Cleveland County School Board accepted the resignation of Zone 6 representative Tony White during its regular monthly meeting due to ongoing health and stress concerns. The district is formally publishing an announcement in next week’s Herald to seek interested candidates to fill White's unexpired term. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must reside within Zone 6, be a registered voter, and secure 20 signatures from registered voters living within the zone. Superintendent Davy King outlined that interested parties have 30 days to submit their names to the board, which can then interview finalists before making a decision. If the board fails to appoint a new member within 90 days, state law mandates that the appointment process will fall to the Cleveland County Quorum Court. Beyond the vacancy, the board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with AmeriCorps to bring in national service workers for elementary tutoring, intervention, and support roles—a program that bridges resource gaps at a reduced cost since federal funding covers the majority of the worker salaries, subject to standard background checks. Finally, the board approved the annual district budget, noting that while another solid financial year is anticipated, the projected year-end surplus will likely be smaller than the previous fiscal year, during which the district transferred over $900,000 in general fund surplus to its building fund to maintain balanced state-monitored general fund levels.
