Late TD Pass Lifts Jr. Cats To Win Over Drew Central

MONTICELLO - The Rison Junior Wildcats earned a thrilling 24-18 come-from-behind victory over the Drew Central Junior Pirates last Thursday night at Drew Central.Drew Central struck first in the game on a 3 3-yard touchdown run with 5:07 remaining in the second quarter. The Pirates attempted a two-point conversion, but the runner was stopped short by Rowdy Phillips and Brayden Kelley.The Junior ‘Cats answered on the next possession on a 9-yard run by Payne Prescott with 22.4 seconds remaining in the first half. Deion Jones ran in the twopoint conversion to give Rison the 8-6 lead.The Pirates had a chance on the final play of the half, but their pass fell incomplete in the end zone as time expired.While the final play of the first half did not result in a touchdown for Drew Central, the first play of the second half did on a 51-yard run. The two-point conversion was no good, giving the Pirates a 12-8 advantage.The Wildcats then muffed the kickoff, leading to Drew Central falling on the loose football. A 25-yard pass four plays later on 4th-and-10 led to the final touchdown of the night for the Pirates. The failed two-point conversion gave Drew Central the 18-8 lead with 4:49 remaining in the third quarter.The Wildcats entered the final quarter of play down two scores, but Deion Jones found pay dirt from 23 yards out with 7:15 remaining in the game. Payne Prescott’s two-point conversion pulled the Junior ‘Cats within an 18-16 margin.The Rison defense showed up big on the next possession, stopping Drew Central on 4th-and-l when M.J. Chambers and Rowdy Phillips combined for a tackle for loss on the play.The Wildcats took over on downs starting off with a 25yard run by Cam Johnson to set up lst-and-goal at the 10.
