RISON - Chandler Reeves’ floater with about four minutes to go in the second quarter keyed a 13-0 run by Rison to close out the first half as the high-flying Wildcats hammered the Hazen Hornets, 67-35, last Thursday night at the Rison Gym.Christian Reeves had 15 of his game-high 23 points over the first two quarters as the ‘Cats began to take control about midway through the first quarter.After Hazen’s JJ Pinkney drilled a 3-pointer to give the Hornets a 9-8 lead with 5:01 lead left in the opening period, Christian Reeves followed with a bucket to give the lead back to Rison as the Wildcats closed out the first quarter with a 12-4 run.Rison was up 29-20 in the second when Chandler Reeves hit his floater to push the Wildcat lead into double digits, The ‘Cats took off from there using a couple of buckets from Kyson Walker, a slam from Christian Reeves, and baskets by Spencer Towery and Jaquis Rauls put Rison up 42-20 at the half.Ethan Saeler continued the run in the second half with a layup, and Christian Reeves then quickly added three more scores, the last coming on a slam dunk with 6:40 left in the third to make it 50-20. Rison stretched its lead to 57-23 before Wildcat Coach Kyle Thaxton began clearing his bench.Hazen never got any closer than 26 points the rest of the game as Rison invoked the running clock before finishing up with a 32-point win. Three Wildats scored in double figures. In addition to the 23 from Christian Reeves, Walker had 17 and Saeler had 11.Rison moved to 2-0 with the victory while Hazen fell to 0-3.
