Lady Bears Blow Past Fordyce; Fall at Junction

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn bolted out to a 15-point lead by the end of the first quarter as the Lady Bears took control early in  a 56-23 victory over the Fordyce Ladybugs in 8-2A conference action Monday night inside the Woodlawn Gym.Jaci Hoyt and Kelsi Mack both hit 3-pointers in the opening frame as both scored seven points apiece to lead the Bears to a 20-5 lead by the end of the opening frame. Hoyt added seven more in the second as Woodlawn built a commanding 33-8 lead by halftime.Kathryn Dixon hit a couple of treys in the third quarter as the Lady Bears were up 49-31 by the  start of the final period.Hoyt led all scorers with 19 points followed by 13 from Lillie Faye McWhorter and 11 from Mack.The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Woodlawn as the Lady Bears moved to 9-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Junction City 47, Woodlawn 46JUNCTION CITY - Woodlawn saw a 13-point lead melt away as turnovers allowed the Junction City Lady Dragons to get back into the game and rally past the Lady Bears for a 47-46 win last Tuesday in 8-2A conference action at Junction City. Junction City struggled to find any offense in the opening period as Woodlawn was up 15-2 at the end of the first quarter. However, the roles were reversed in the second as the Lady Dragons went on an 18-5 run to pull even by halftime, 20-20.The Lady Bears regained the lead in the third, but Coach Synthia English said they had too many turnovers down the stretch as Junction City rallied for the one-point victory.Woodlawn’s Kathryn Dixon, who had seven 3-pointers in a 25-point effort.
