Bears Rally From 13 Down, Beat Fordyce

WOODLAWN - Jude Roberts and Garrett Weatherford hit a couple of big 3’s to spark a big run for Woodlawn as the Bears rallied from 13 down in the fourth quarter to upend the Fordyce Redbugs, 71-66, in an 8-2A conference barnburner Monday night at the Woodlawn Gym.It was a back-and-forth game throughout the first half as the Bears’ Jake Allred drained a 3pointer with two seconds left to give Woodlawn a 34-31 halftime lead.After the two teams exchanged treys to start the third quarter, Fordyce went on a 10-0 run to take a 44-37 lead with 5:07 left in the period. Andreal Ellison later hit his second 3 just before the buzzer to give Fordyce a 5546 lead heading into the fourth.The ‘Bugs quickly added a couple more scores early in final period to give Fordyce a 59-46 lead. Woodlawn’s Aiden Powell had a layup to finally answer the mini run and Weatherford then nailed a 3-pointer to cut the Redbugs’ lead to eight. However, Fordyce’s Vincent Stroud answered with a score to put the ‘Bugs back up by double digts at 10.But with about 6 minutes left in the game, Stroud committed his fifth foul as Roberts was driving to the basket. Roberts hit both free throws to make it 6153. Allred then scored inside, Roberts drilled a trey from the top of the key, and then Weatherford had a steal and layup to suddenly have the Bears within one, 61-60.After another defensive rebound by Woodlawn, Weatherford pulled up on the break and buried another 3-pointer to move the Bears in front, 63-61, with 3:55 left. Powell then had another basket inside to give Woodlawn a four-point advantage, 65-61.Jamartez Stroud finally ended the scoring drought for Fordyce with a 3 to make it a one-point game, 65-64, but Roberts answered with his own driving layup.
