Lady Bears Beat Junction City

WOODLAWN - Jaci Hoyt drained five 3-pointers and scored 30 points as the Woodlawn Lady Bears got past the Junction City Lady Dragons, 5042, in a pivotal 8-2A conference game last Thursday at the Woodlawn gym.

The win put the Lady Bears in a tie with the Lady Dragons for second place in the conference standings as league play is in its final week. Should the two teams finish the season in a tie, Woodlawn would have the tiebreaker by virtue of a larger margin of victory.The Lady Dragons edged Woodlawn, 4746, in their previous encounter at Junction City.

Junction led 7-5 when Hoyt's jumper tied the game at the 4:21 mark of the first and her layup off a fast break gave the Lady Bears a 9-7 lead. They would never trail the rest of the way.

Woodlawn led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, and two more 3's from Hoyt in the second quarter pushed the lead to 23-16 by halftime.

The Lady Bears converted 9of-1o of their free throw attempts in the third quarter as they entered the final period with a 42-30 lead. After Hoyt hit a couple of free throws midway through the fourth, Woodlawn matched its largest lead of the game at 49-34.

But Junction City refused to go away. Bria Watson hit a 3- pointer, Keynizha Moore had a layup and Makenzie Flowers drained another trey to cut the Lady Bears' lead to 49-42 with 2:10 left in the game. The Lady Dragons, however, couldn't get any more long-range shots to fall after that as Hoyt's free throw with 35 seconds left essentially sealed the game.

Kathryn Dixon had 12 points for Woodlawn.

Woodlawn 49, Parkers Chapel 38 

WOODLAWN - Woodlawn's Kathryn Dixon made five 3pointers as three Lady Bears scored in double figures to pull out at 49-38 win over the Parkers Chapel Lady Trojans last Tuesday night at home.

After the opening quarter ended in an 11-11 tie, the Lady Bears' offense went cold in the second as the Lady Trojans went on a 12-4 run to take a 23-15 lead at the half.
