RISON - Rison moved the tying run to second base with one out in the bottom of the seventh but the McGehee Lady Owls managed to hang on for a 6-5 win over the Lady Wildcats in the regular season finale Monday at Lady Wildcat Field.Still, the Lady ‘Cats, 7-9, finished third in the final 8-3A standings and will advance to the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament at Ashdown this week as the league’s no. 3 seed. They will face the Smackover Lady Buckaroos, the no. 2 seed from the 7-3A conference, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Lady ‘Bucks are 17-2 on the year.A win against Smackover would earn Rison a bid to the Class 3A State Tournament to be held May 15-17 at Greenland.Errors played a key role in the Lady ‘Cats loss to McGehee as they out-hit the Lady Owls, 11-9, but committed five errors.McGehee’s first run came off an error in the top of the first but Rison answered with a couple of runs in the second off singles by Mackenzie King, Allie Bennett, Claire Socia and Layne Potter. Both runs came with two out to make it 2-1 Lady ‘Cats.The Lady Owls tied it with an RBI single in the fourth, but Rison answered again when Bennett led off the bottom of the fourth with a single that moved her to third following an error. Bennett scored on a wild pitch, and Carlese Johnson then had a two-out double to drive in another run to make it 4-2 Rison.McGehee, however, tied it back up 4-4 in the top of the fifth using a double, a walk and single to plate two runs.The Lady Owls took the lead for good when the lead-off batter in the sixth reached second on a two-base error. A follow-up single brought her home, and McGehee added another run off another error to make it 6-4 Lady Owls.Rison battled back again in the bottom of the sixth when Potter had an one-out single, and then moved to third on an error.
