RISON - Road projects and grant applications to buy more equipment for the road department were among the issues addressed by the Cleveland County Quorum Court during its regular monthly meeting Monday night.County Judge Jimmy Cummings told the court that a bridge along Tolefree Road in the New Edinburg area will be the first of four that will be replaced using a federal funding program being administered through the Arkansas Department of Transportation's Local Bridge Program. Under the program, the county provides 10 percent of the funding while the state covers the remaining 90 percent using the federal funds.Pickering Firm, a civil engineering firm in Jonesboro, has been awarded the contract for the Tolefree Road bridge project, Cummings said. He told the court he expects to have the engineering report along with a cost from Pickering in September.Tolefree Road was one of four bridges along county roads that will be replaced under the Local Bridge Program. Cummings said the next bridge to be replaced will be along Prairie Road over Cottonmouth Creek in the Kingsland area. That will followed by Joe Huntley Road over Panther Creek in the Kingsland area, and finally Neely Loop Road in the Pansy area.While the county has been approved to replace all four bridges, Cummings said the funding is limited to one bridge project per year.In another road-related matter, Cummings told the quorum court that Lincoln County Judge Buddy Lynn Earnest reached out to him about splitting the cost to have about a half mile of Fennyville Road paved in the Glendale area. Fennyville Road is located on the Cleveland-Lincoln County border with the northern side in Cleveland County and the southern side in Lincoln County.Cummings said the plan is to use a portion of the county's state road aid money to pay for the project.
