Junior Wildcats Drop Heartbreaker at Haskell

HASKELL - The Haskell Harmony Grove Junior Cardinals hit a 23-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give them a 14-8 win over the Rison Junior Wildcats in non-conference matchup Tuesday evening in Haskell.After a scoreless first half, Rison recovered an onside kick attempt to start the third quarter and Junior Wildcat running back Payne Prescott clicked off a 25yard run down to the Harmony Grove 36 on the first play of the second half.The Junior Cardinals, a Class 4A program, stuffed the next two plays for no gain, leaving the Junior 'Cats facing 3rd-and-10. Prescott then took the pitch 20 yards for a first down and added 10 more yards on the next play to give Rison a 1st-and-goal at the 1. Bryant Branch punched it in from there, and Deion Jones added the two-point conversion to give the Junior Wildcats an 80 lead.Harmony Grove answered, however, on it enusing possession, using a 33-yard touchdown pass to cap a 64-yard drive. The Junior 'Cards converted the twopointer to tie the game, 8-8.Rison was forced to punt on its next possession, giving Harmony Grove the ball at its own 40 with 1:48 left in the game. The Junior Cardinals used two big pass completions to cover the distance in five plays to win the game.Rison dropped to 1-1 on the season after the setback. It was the Junior Wildcats' final nonconference game before opening up 8-3A conference play with home game against Barton on Sept. 18....
