MONTICELLO - After a competitive opening frame, the DeWitt Lady Dragons took control in the second to come away a 69-41 win over the Woodlawn Lady Bears last Friday in the mini state tournament at Drew Central High School in Monticello.DeWitt led 19-15 at the end of the first before going on a 22-5 run over the course of the second quarter to take a comfortable 41-24 lead into halftime.Woodlawn got its offense back on track in the third but the Lady Dragons stayed hot, putting up another 23 points to push its lead to 64-37 by the start of the fourth.Jaci Hoyt hit four 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 12 points followed by Erin Vinson with 10. Woodlawn 45, Gurdon 40WOODLAWN - Jaci Hoyt and Preslee Mack each hit four 3-pointers as the Woodlawn Lady Bears got past the Gurdon Lady Go Devils, 45-40, to open 8-2A conference play at the Woodlawn Gym last Tuesday.Woodlawn built a seven-point lead, 16-9, by the end of the first quarter before the two teams played even in the second to leave the Lady Bears with a 27-20 halftime lead.Gurdon, however, struggled to find the basket in the third quarter as the Woodlawn outscored the Lady Devils, 11-1, to take a comfortable 38-21 lead into the fourth.
