POYEN - The Rison Wildcats picked up their first win of the season before dropping a heart-breaker to go 1-1 at the Poyen Tournament last Friday and Saturday.The ‘Cats dominated the Magnet Cove Panthers, 8-0, for their first win on Friday before seeing the Poyen Indians, host team, rally late to pull out a 9-8 win on Saturday.Rison went up 2-0 in the top of the first against Poyen when Brayden Terry drove in a run and eventually scored on a passed ball. Poyen, however, plated three runs off two errors, two singles and a walk in the bottom the first to go up 3-2.Rison regained the lead in the second when Henry Garner was a hit by a pitch to start the inning and eventually stole home. Noah Matheson then doubled in another run to put the ‘Cats on top, 4-3.The Indians used a walk, single and double, all coming with two out, to score two runs in the bottom of the third to move back in front, 5-4.Rison answered again, scoring four runs in the fourth to go back on top.Trent Southerland doubled with one out before Mason Weaver delivered a two-out double to bring him home to tie the game, 5-5. A walk to Terry followed by a two-run single from Easton Billings moved the Wildcats back into the lead before back-to-back singles by Brody Howard and Logan McGarity generated one more score to make it 8-5.Poyen led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk, and one out later, had a single and double to cut the Rison lead to 8-7. Then with two out, the Indians reached on a catcher’s interference call before two more singles drove in two more runs to give Poyen a 9-8 lead.The ‘Cats threatened in the top of the fifth when walks to Southerland and Weaver had runners at first and second with one out. However, a fielder’s choice and fly out turn back the threat and the game ended due to the tournament format.Rison got production throughout the lineup as seven Wildcats had one hit apiece.
