KINGSLAND - The Kingsland City Council decided during a special called meeting Tuesday night to move a proposed outdoor pavilion from the “pole yard” property next to the railroad tracks to the city’s playground property behind Kingsland School, Mayor Samantha Johnson reported.
Paul Abeyta, a former Kingsland resident now residing in Camden who is also a music promoter, had approached the city about acquiring the pole yard property since it had not been deeded to anyone and putting the pavilion there. City Attorney Thomas Burns, however, told Abeyta earlier during the June council meeting that it would move faster if Abeyta acquired the property and then donate it to the city.
Johnson said the idea of placing the pavilion on the pole yard property drew some opposition from Kingsland Missionary Baptist Church about parking and trash. She said that played a role in the city’s decision.
The council also approved a resolution formally appointing Johnson to fulfill the unexpired term of Karen Wiscaver, who had resigned the office.
