Disastrous Start Dooms Bears As Izard County Rolls

Body

A disastrous start that included two turnovers and 79 yards in penalties in just a little over a quarter doomed the Woodlawn Bears as the Izard County Cougars never let up in a 60-8 victory Friday night at Cougar Stadium in Brockwell. Izard County converted two fourth-down plays via penalty on its opening drive to take a quick 8-0 lead. Woodlawn then turned it over on their first two possessions and the Cougars capitalized, eventually bolting out to a 32-0 lead before Griffin Manes’ scored on a four-yard run to make it 32-8 at the half. The Bears had four turnovers for the game: two lost fumbles, an interception and a lost onside kick. They also had a punt blocked. Izard County left its starters in the game throughout, throwing a 37-yard touchdown pass and then getting 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Woodlawn fell to 1-2 overall with the loss. The Bears have a bye this week before hosting Friendship Aspire for homecoming on Oct.
