Jones Hits Scott For Three Long Touchdowns As Junior Bears Roll

BROCKWELL – Quarterback Grayson Jones connected with receiver Duke Scott for three touchdown passes totaling 171 yards as the Woodlawn Juniors Bears blew out the Izard County Junior Cougars, 44-6, for their third straight victory Friday afternoon at Cougar Stadium in Brockwell.

Woodlawn dominated on both sides of the ball. Carson Young, who played at both running back and quarterback in the game, rushed for 131 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Junior Bear defense held Izard County to two first downs, one by penalty and the other on a long touchdown pass against the 7th grade defense on what was the final play of the game.

The Junior Cougars’ offensive struggles started early as Juan Dominquez and Zach Mull came up with tackles for losses on the opening series of the game forcing Izard County to punt. Mull finished the game with two tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

On the fourth play of the ensuing drive, Jones hit Scott on a slant pattern and the 6-3 eighth grader pulled away from the Junior Cougar pursuit for a 69-yard touchdown. Brody Richardson added the conversion for a quick 8-0 Woodlawn lead with 4:01 left in the first.

Eli White then recovered an onside kick by Woodlawn, and on the second play after the recovery Jones hit Scott for another touchdown, this one going for 49 yards. A high snap wiped out the two-point attempt, leaving the Junior Bears up 14-0.

After another three-and-out by the Junior Cougars, Woodlawn went 45 yards in six plays with Young scoring on an eight-yard run to cap the drive with 6:30 left in the first half. Jones ran in the conversion to make it 22-0.

Izard County turned it over on downs on its next possession, and on the next play, Jones hit Scott sprinting along the sideline for a 53-yard TD strike. Young added the conversion to extend the Junior Bear lead to 30-0.

The Junior Cougars then failed to convert on fourth down again, and Young took the next snap 32 yards for another Woodlawn score with 4:32 left in the…
