Norton Paces Junior Bears; Junior Lady Bear Place 10th

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Junior High boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Bob Gravette Invitational Meet held Saturday, Sept. 3, on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. Coach Sydney Adair reported the Junior Bears finished fifth overall in the team standings while the Junior Lady Bears were 10th. Woodlawn was one of the smallest classification schools to compete in the junior high event. Here are the results by division: Boys Meet Lake Hamilton won the team championship followed by Hot Springs Lakeside, Little Rock Christian, Magnolia and then Woodlawn. The Junior Bears finished ahead of Hot Springs, Monticello, Hermitage and Sheridan. Adair said 137 runners were in the event. Daniel Norton finished seventh overall with a time of 12:18. Other top finishers for Woodlawn included Gavin Edmonds, 32nd, 13:25; Mark Adams, 45th, 13:49; Isaac Lowe, 67th, 14:35; Ladan Pratt, 71st, 14:44; and Parker Arnold, 88th, 15:35. Other Woodlawn runners competing taking part were Justis Lowe, Sam Lovett, Coltan Simmons and Harper Varnell. Girls Meet Adair reported there were 115 competing in the meet. Preslee Mack, a seventh grader, was the top finisher for the Junior Lady Bears, finishing 48th overall with a time of 17:06. Other top finishers for Woodlawn were Jayci Hoyt, 70th, 18:31; Kelsi Mack, 77th, 18:58; Erin Vinson, 86th, 19:28; and Maeley Simmons, 87th, 19:28. Other Woodlawn runners included Jailyn Wright, Zoey Hunter, Amanda Ellington, and Lilly Varnell. Both junior high teams will compete in the Little Rock Cross Country Invitational this Saturday at the War Memorial Golf Course in Little Rock. The Tigers line up in the pistol and shotgun with a wing, and occasionally do direct snaps to the running back.
