Jr. Cats Get First Victory at Drew Cent

MONTICELLO - The Rison Junior High Wildcats notched their first victory of the 2022 football season Thursday night of last week, when they routed the Drew Central Junior High Pirates, 32-6, in their 6-3A Conference opener. The Junior ‘Cats will remain in league play this Thursday, when they host the Dollarway Junior High Cardinals at George Walker Field of Champions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. There will be a 7th grade game between the teams starting at 5:30, it has been announced. In their win over Drew Central, assistant coach Josh Smeltzer said the Junior’'Cats continued to show improvement since the first of the season. Defensively, Smeltzer said Rison was led by Galvin Wilson, Bryce Phillips, Chardedrick and Chardarrion Wells. “They caused a lot of problems for them (Drew Central),” Smeltzer said. “And our offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage all night.” Blocking across the front line for Rison were the Wells twins, Chardedrick and Chardarrion, Tanner Collins, Phillips, Wilson, Gage Huff and Josh Henderson.
