Rison, Charleston To Meet In 3A Semifinal This Friday

RISON - A berth in the Class 3A state championship game will be on the line this Friday night when the Rison Wildcats host the Charleston Tigers in a Class 3A state semifinal game at 7 p.m. at George Walker Field of Champions. All tickets for Friday's game must be purchased online, per Arkansas Activity Association (AAA) guidelines. No tickets will be available at the gate. Tickets can be purchased at the gofan.co website. Search for "Rison Wildcats." Whichever team comes out on top in Friday's game will face the winner of the other semifinal that has the Melbourne Bearkats hosting the Booneville Bearcats. The Class 3A state title game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Charleston, the 1-3A conference champions, is 12-1 on the year with its only loss being a 27-19 setback to Class 4A Nashville, which itself is playing the Class 4A semifinals this week. Rison advanced to the semifinals with a thrilling 34-29 victory over the top-ranked Prescott Curley Wolves last Friday night at George Walker Field of Champions. It was Prescott's first loss of the season, and only its third time the Wolves have lost in the past three seasons. (See full coverage on page 8 of this issue.) Charleston advanced with a 48-6 blowout of Newport in its quarterfinal game last Friday. The Tigers have given up just 12 points through three playoff games this year, routing Gurdon 41-6 in the opener and then shutting out Centerpoint 42-0 in the second round. ...
