FORDYCE - After advancing to the regional finals this past weekend , the Rison Lady Wildcats will be making their first trip to the state tournament since 2015 as they face the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 1) in the first round of the Class 2A State Tournament at Rector High School.
The winner will advance to the second round to play the Bigelow/Hector winner at 7 p.m. Thursday night at Rector.
Rison goes into the game as the no. 2 seed from the South Region after falling to the Fordyce Ladybugs, 50-31, in Saturday night's South Region finals at FBT Redbug Arena in Fordyce. Marmaduke is the no. 3 seed from the North Region.
The Lady Wildcats are 20-12 overall after beating Spring Hill, 52-43, in the first round of the regional tournament and then pulling off a late rally to get past Acorn, 36-35, in the semifinals.
The Lady Greyhounds enter the game with a 25-14 record overall. They finished third in the 3-2A conference regular season standings behind Riverside and Rector before earning the no. 2 seed in the district tournament.
Marmaduke blasted McCrory, 70-28, in the first round of the North Region tournament before falling to Des Arc, 71-48, in the semifinals. The Lady Greyhounds edged Rector, 62-59, in Saturday's North Region consolation game to earn the no. 3 seed.
