Here is a recap of each game at the Brookland Bearcast Blast:
Valley View 3, Woodlawn 2
After Jaci Hoyt started the game with a single, Lillie Faye McWhorter smashed a two-out homerun in the top of the first to give the Lady Bears an early 2-0.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when the Lady Blazers had back-to-back singles with one out and eventually loaded the bases with two out. Valley View scored two runs off passed balls, and then a double drove in what turned out to be the winning run.
The game ended after the fourth due to the time rule.
Hoyt's single and McWhorter's homer, both coming in the first inning, where the only hits for the Lady Bears.
McWhorter took the pitching loss despite allowing just three hits and one walk over four innings. She had three strikeouts.
Woodlawn 4, St. Genevieve 3
A single followed by three doubles to start the bottom the third inning plated three runs for the Woodlawn Lady Bears as they rallied for a 4-3 win over the St. Genevieve (Mo.) Lady Dragons in the second game at the Brookland Bearcat Blast.
St. Genevieve scored on a ground out in the top of the first for a quick 1-0 lead. Woodlawn tied the game in second when Lily White's two-out single drove in Kaitlyn Webb to make it 1-1.
The Lady Dragons regained the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third off a single, an error and another single.
