Vernon Eugene 'Gene' Scallion, 90, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 13, 2023.

He was bom September 24, 1932, in Pine Bluff to Benjamin Ivy Scallion and Lula Leona Crain Scallion.

Mr. Scallion married the love of his life, Isla Jean George Scallion on March 30, 1956, in Pine Bluff.

He opened Scallions Car Wash on August 1, 1969, and ran the business with his two sons, Leon, and Vemon, until the day he died.

He was very passionate about his work with a work ethic that was unmatched.

He loved to garden and was a bird watching enthusiast. He had many fond memories of growing up around the Cross Roads area of Cleveland County near Kingsland, Arkansas. He always enjoyed taking afternoon rides with his son Vemon that brought back so many fond memories. These trips always included a drive to Grays Lake, where he hunted and fished as a kid.

He was a member of First Assembly Church of God in Pine Bluff.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be truly missed by family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Jean Scallion, and brothers Benny Scallion and William Scallion.

Survivors include his three sons, Doug Scallion, Leon Scallion (Kim), Vemon Scallion (Jaime); eight grandchildren, Brandon Scallion (Christin), Lindsey Scallion Tooke (Aaron), Haleigh Scallion Hudgins (Scott), Hayden Scallion, Spencer Scallion, Trey Scallion (along with their mother Jennifer Scallion) and Kane Mills; and great grandchildren, Faith Tooke, Rowdy Tooke, Landon Scallion, Saylor Scallion, and Henry Welton Hudgins.

He very much loved and appreciated his caregivers Willie Mae Jones and Tina Solis.

While he was serving in the Army in Germany, he met his lifelong best friend Gerhard Klein with whom he maintained a friendship with.

He never had a daughter, but he had a daughter in love. Jacqueline Bamett works at the car wash and has been a loyal employee for over twenty-five years.

Visitation was Monday, April 17, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God and continued until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Gary Bell was the officiant. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.

Pallbearers were Brandon Scallion, Hayden Scallion, Spencer Scallion, Trey Scallion, Scott Hudgins, Kane Mills, Booker Franklin, Tommy Bell and Ruben Aguilar and honorary pallbearer Leroy Jones.
