Lady 'Cats Fall to Star City

STAR CITY - Star City used a double, a single and an error to score three runs in the third inning as the Lady Bulldogs held off the Rison Lady Wildcats, 5-3, in a non-conference game Monday at Star City. The Lady 'Dogs scratched out two runs with two outs in the bottom of the first with a double and passed ball to get an early 20 lead. Rison answered with a run in the top of the first to make it 2-1 when Carlese Johnson singled with two out to drive in Layne Potter, who led off the inning with a hit. Star City came back in the bottom of the inning to plate three runs off a one-out double and a two-out single and error, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 5-1 lead. The Lady 'Cats battled back in the fourth when Breanna Taylor walked to start the frame and Victoria James reached on an error. Amelia Stewart's sacrifice bunt scored Taylor, and one out later, Potter stroked a single to drive James home, cutting Star City's lead to 5-3. Jade Keaton followed with another single to put runners at first and second but a line drive ended the inning. Rison threatened in the top of the seventh when an error and a walk resulted in two runners onwith two out. However, the Lady 'Cats were caught stealing to end the game. Potter had a strong day at the plate going 3-for-4 to account for half of the Lady Wildcats' hits. Keaton, Johnson and James accounted for the other three hits. Keaton pitched all seven innings for Rison. She gave up nine hits and no walks with six strikeouts. Rison fell to 6-11 overall and 2-9 in conference play with the loss. ...
