WOODLAWN - Having lost the bulk of his skill players on both offense and defense, Woodlawn Coach Zach Meyer hopes to find a few more answers for those vacancies as the Bears hold their Black-and-White scrimmage game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Carl Jones Sports Complex.
Woodlawn lost his All-State quarterback Jaxson Martin and two solid running backs in Caleb Martin and Fisher Hal to graduation. There will be a "Meet the Bears" ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. where the pee wee, junior high and varsity players and cheerleaders will be introduced.
While there is no admission, organizers are asking for spectators to bring water, sports drinks or make a donation instead. The items collected will be used by the football and cheer teams this season.
Meyer said he plans on getting with the coaching staff later this week to determine the players for the two teams. While two of the three quarterbacks will get to start, it is likely the team with the other quarterback will be seeing a rotation.
Meyer said he would like to solidify a few things this Friday night as the Bears prepare for their 2023 season open on Friday, Sept. 1, against Prairie View Academy in Bastrop, La. The Spartans will have played t...
